HIS Sports Thanks Participants for Izmir Half Marathon Victory

Izmir, commemorating its 101st liberation anniversary, bore witness to an exhilarating display of athletic prowess at the 11th International Dokuz Eylul Izmir Half Marathon, meticulously organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. With a staggering 2,500 participants, this marathon showcased Ramazan Baştuğ's remarkable victory in the men's category, while Bahar Atalay emerged as the champion among women. The overall men's standings witnessed Kenyan sensation Frankline Keitanyi securing the gold medal, followed by Meshack Kimutai Kibil, another impressive Kenyan athlete in second place, and Ramazan Baştuğ gallantly claiming third.

Notably, Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary-General of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, enthusiastically participated in the race, showcasing the municipality's dedication to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

 

This year's half marathon, which traced the scenic route from Cumhuriyet Square to Inciraltı and back to Cumhuriyet Square, recognized and rewarded exceptional performances across various categories. These categories encompassed not only the overall winners among men and women but also Turkish male and female athletes. Additionally, accolades were presented to outstanding runners in the 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60-64 age groups. The honors were bestowed by a distinguished panel, including Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Fatih Çintimar, the President of the Turkish Athletics Federation, Murat Eskici, Director of Izmir Youth and Sports, Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary-General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Hakan Orhunbilge, President of Izmir Youth and Sports Services Department, Ersan Odaman, President of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club, among others.

 

Hakan Orhunbilge, the esteemed head of the Izmir Youth and Sports Services Department, expressed his delight in the success of the 11th International Dokuz Eylul Izmir Half Marathon, remarking, "Izmir residents once again exhibited tremendous enthusiasm for running. The participation numbers exceeded two thousand, providing a truly gratifying spectacle."
